Not all was a loss.
Gaskins came back to New Orleans and self-published her second book- "Going Back, Coming Home" based on her personel experience as well as others who have a common thread- they lived through Katrina.
The book is nearly sold out and has been used as a guide in a upcoming film with Lawrence Fishbourne, as well as learning tool for people coming to the city to get a more personal look at what has happened to the people of New Orleans.
Another turn for Gaskins has been the use of found wood to paint on.
Since Katrina, there is plenty of it.
